opening titles analysis: The Hobbit.

1: from 0-8 seconds we are intodruced to Warner Bros, owned by Time Warner. Warner bros was the largest distribution company for the hobbit film. Warner bros is an American based distribution company, one of the largest in the world.
2: then from 11-22 seconds we are introduced to our next company, this time a production company, New line Cinema, also owned by Time warner.

3: at 24-36 seconds in we are introduced to Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM), this is another company involved with the production of the film.

4: the final production company is Wingnut films, a New Zealand company, only fitting considering the film was produced in New Zealand. This clip lasts 5 seconds.

5: finally we are shown the main title of the film. ‘The hobbit’. The colour of the font is gold, this is a like to the ‘one ring’ which is also gold. The title slow fades out into the opening scene.
This clip lasts for 6 seconds.

filming technique:

for my film i am going to use the first person filming technique or point of view (POV). here is a short clip from cloverfield demonstrating what it will look like.

ideas to what could make a good horror.

i personally feel having good forest poltergeist would add a sense of horror, but keeping it subtle, not so much loud screams and obvious jump-scares, but more subtle scares, things as simple as twigs snapping, change in music and so forth.
location is a key to making a good horror movie as it sets the atmosphere, for instance, setting a horror movie in a dark forest would be scarier than setting a horror in a park in the middle of the day.
also having the poltergeist to have a good motive, there to be a story behind what is going on.
good effects is key, nothing is worse than watching a horror film and noticing every bad bit of editing and SFX.

Colours are key for my film, using dark and sinister colors to give it a horror feel. but not so dark that you can hardly see anything, this will be a challenge because i will be filming in the night time.

Title research:

the title i have decided to use is 'When The Sun Goes Down'.
i will now have to research decide what font, size and colors to use.
Here are a few examples of horror film titles to give me some ideas.

storyline change:

staying with a dark horror i have changed the plot, now i have decided to focus around a satanic cult story, rumours of people going missing and people worshiping satan. two boys go to see if the rumours are true, so when the sun goes down the two boys set out for the forest. they begin to discover that the rumours are true. cut to black.
