i personally feel having good forest poltergeist would add a sense of horror, but keeping it subtle, not so much loud screams and obvious jump-scares, but more subtle scares, things as simple as twigs snapping, change in music and so forth.
location is a key to making a good horror movie as it sets the atmosphere, for instance, setting a horror movie in a dark forest would be scarier than setting a horror in a park in the middle of the day.
also having the poltergeist to have a good motive, there to be a story behind what is going on.
good effects is key, nothing is worse than watching a horror film and noticing every bad bit of editing and SFX.
Colours are key for my film, using dark and sinister colors to give it a horror feel. but not so dark that you can hardly see anything, this will be a challenge because i will be filming in the night time.
